Introduction

The Division of Engineering provides the specialized engineering, technical assistance, and contract support necessary to ensure the timely, efficient delivery of projects that comprise ODOT's multi-year programs. Engineering serves its customers – the traveling public, business communities, district offices and industry partners – through the coordinated efforts of staff in eight offices.

CADD and Mapping Services

CADD and Mapping Services provides high quality, innovative, timely, and cost effective products, services, technical assistance, and contract support in Remote Sensing, GIS, Digital Imaging, Mapping, Surveying, and CADD; as well as develops engineering and surveying standards, specifications, and guidelines that contain current technology practices to create a precise, reliable, and safe transportation infrastructure.

Consultant Services

Consultant Services assists districts and other offices in contracting for the services of consultants needed to support the mission of the Ohio Department of Transportation.  We develop agreements which efficiently and effectively provide professional services. In establishing these agreements, we assist our customers in selecting qualified consultants and conduct equitable negotiations to provide approved, legal agreements. ​

Geotechnical Engineering

Geotechnical Engineering provides geotechnical services and support for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of a safe, accessible transportation system for the people of Ohio.

Hydraulic Engineering

Hydraulic Engineering is responsible for the oversight of all aspects of highway drainage. This includes all bridges, prefabricated cross-drains, storm sewers, open water carriers (ditches), pavement drainage systems, sanitary sewers, water works, and permanent stormwater BMPs.

Pavement Engineering

Pavement Engineering provide its customers with standards, policies, procedures, and research to allow them to provide smooth, quiet, cost-effective pavements for the traveling public at a minimum of inconvenience.

Real Estate serves the people of Ohio by dedicating itself to the fair and equitable treatment of all parties affected by the purchase of right-of-way to further the Department of Transportation's highway projects.

Roadway Engineering

Roadway Engineering ensures a safe and efficient transportation system by developing engineering policies, standards, and guidelines, providing technical assistance and advancing state-of-the-art engineering practices. Roadway Engineering assists other offices within Central Office and the Districts by acting as a consultant, by aiding in the review, design and operation of Ohio's transportation system.

Structural Engineering

Structural Engineering provides ODOT districts with standards, policy, procedures, training, design resources, data and research to allow them to continually monitor and improve the quality of ODOT’s bridge inventory. This support will enable them to provide safe, cost effective, durable and smooth riding bridges for the public, along with providing bridges that meet the needs of Ohio’s growing economy.
