The ODOT Office of Technical Services collects and shares data to help support the decision-making process for funding and maintenance across our system. The ODOT Facts Book is an annual publication that neatly, concisely and comprehensively publishes a summary of key data in one place for public consumption.

If you ever wanted to know how many bridges ODOT maintains or how many miles of interstate roadway crisscrosses Ohio, this is the publication to consult. For instance, we know that:

  • Ohio is the fifth largest Interstate system, with more than 8,000 lane miles. Enough interstate to travel from Los Angeles to Washington D.C. about 3 times. 
  • Ohio is centrally locations within a day's drive of more than 60% of the US and Canadian populations.
  • Ohio has the nation’s second largest total number of bridges: 27,151.
  • Ohio's highway safety statistics vary from county to county and we track and provide yearly averages for fatalities, serious injuries and total crashes across the state.
