Contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation have begun construction on the single-lane modern roundabout at U.S. 36 and State Route 121 intersection in Neave Township.
This intersection is on the Governor’s Top 150 list for safety improvements. An ODOT study discovered the intersection of U.S. 36 and S.R. 121 experienced higher crashes than anticipated. The modern roundabout will help maintain traffic and reduce the number of “T-bone” crashes.
During construction, a temporary road is being built just north of U.S. 36 beginning on Monday, May 2. Once the temporary road is complete, ODOT will divert U.S. 36 traffic onto it. U.S. 36 will remain open throughout the project, with periodic lane restrictions. The next phase will be an intermittent road closure of S.R. 121, which can last up to 45 days. All work is weather permitting. The detours are posted on the Darke County weekly construction update.
The Brumbaugh Construction Company was awarded a contract for approximately $1.7 million to construct the roundabout, and the entire project has an estimated completion date of Fall 2022.
