ODOT’s mission is to provide safe and easy movement of people and goods from place to place. The Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) helps ODOT achieve that goal by making safety investments that reduce the severity of crashes on Ohio roads. ODOT has one of the largest safety programs in the nation with an annual budget of $158 million and more than 300 projects in development or construction.
ODOT’s HSIP staff also works with Ohio safety organizations to implement the Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP). The SHSP is a comprehensive statewide plan that addresses the most prevalent causes of roadway deaths and serious injuries in Ohio. This data-driven plan establishes common goals, priorities and strategies; provides a framework to track implementation; and coordinates safety investments across organizations to help Ohio maximize its resources, save lives and prevent serious injuries.
Ultimately, we all play a role in making Ohio roads safe, including motorists, the public, government agencies, elected officials and safety advocates.
