Byways Program for Ohio

Travel back in time 330 million years when Ohio's geologic wonder Hocking Hills was formed. Visit Hocking Hills Scenic Byway.

The Ohio Department of Transportation offers assistance and coordination for groups wishing to designate a system of roads as a scenic byway.

The Ohio Scenic Byway Program is a grassroots effort to heighten awareness of our State’s historical and intrinsic resources: cultural, historical, archeological, recreational, natural and scenic – which collectively, enhance the overall traveling experience. Program participation provides subsequent benefits to the community as well, such as resource preservation, enhancement and protection.

Groups wishing to designate a roadway or system of roadways as a scenic byway should start with the guidance. Click on the Ohio Byways Guidance below to start the journey toward scenic byways designation.
