Digital Photolog

The Department has one instrumented vehicle which is equipped with 4 high resolution digital cameras. The 4 cameras give views straight ahead out the front window, left shoulder, right shoulder, and out the rear window. All 4 views are collected at the rate of 200 shots per mile or every 26.4 feet down the road. In addition to the cameras, a high end GPS system along with an on-board inertial measurement unit (IMU) allow us to reference all collected images quite precisely both spatially (latitude and longitude) as well as linearly (County – Route – and Milepoint).

We are now on a two year collection cycle on the state system mainline collecting the north half of the state on even years (Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 11, and 12) and the south half of the state on the odd years (Districts 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10). Interchanges and ramps are being collected and updated as they change with no set collection cycle.
