Program Goal

The Urban Transit Program (UTP) encompasses funding administered by the Office of Transit for transit service in Ohio’s urbanized areas with populations of 50,000 or greater. The program goal is to facilitate the most efficient and effective use of state funds in the provision of transportation services. There are 26 urban transit agencies in Ohio.

Who Can Apply?

Regional Transit Authorities, County Transit Boards, municipalities, or counties that own or operate public transportation systems. Transit systems must be recipients of FTA Section 5307 funds in order to receive UTP funds.

Funding

ODOT allocated $16.6 million for state fiscal year 2023. The sources of funds for this program are from Ohio’s General Revenue Funds passed by the Ohio General Assembly for the 2022-2023 biennium. The UTP funds are formula-based and allocations are determined by the Federal Transit Administration funds received and the percentage of federal funds received in Ohio.
