About the project

The project is designed to reconstruct the bridge carrying State Route 37/State Route 661 over State Route 16 in Granville. The project will also include turn lane additions along the SR 37/SR 661 entrance and exit ramps. The intersection of SR 661 and River Road/Weaver Drive will be improved to include turn lanes along SR 37/SR Route 661 and along westbound River Road. The intersection will be signalized.

The $9 million project is expected to begin in spring 2020 and completed in fall 2021.

Expected impacts to traffic

Construction began in Spring 2020 and will be undertaken in two phases. Construction schedule is subject to change.

Current Traffic Pattern

2021 Construction Season

Spring/Summer 2021:

  • The SR 37/SR 661 bridge over SR 16 in Granville is currently open to two-way traffic (one lane in each direction). Beginning Monday, August 2, motorists will be able to access River Rd. from SR661 (Main St.) and SR 16 WB. However, motorists will only be permitted to exit River Rd. by using SR 16 WB. Motorists will NOT be permitted to exit River Rd. by using SR 661 (Main St.). This restriction is scheduled to last 21 days and will allow crews to finish construction of the south side of this intersection. Ramp access at this interchange will be as follows:  Ramp access at this interchange will be as follows:

-Ramp from SR 37 to SR 16 EB: Ramp is open to SR 37 NB traffic
-Ramp from SR 16 WB to SR 661: Traffic will only be permitted to turn right and travel north on SR 661.
-Ramp from SR 661 to SR 16 WB:  This ramp will only be accessible by right turn from SR 661 SB.
-Ramp from SR 16 EB to SR 37:  Traffic will only be permitted to turn right and travel south on SR 37.

All other traffic will need to follow the singed detour to the SR16/Columbus Rd/Cherry Street Interchange.

Fall 2021:

  • The SR 37/661 bridge and all ramps are expected to be open.
    • On Monday, December 20, pavement markings will be placed, the traffic signals at the interchange and River Road/Weaver Drive will be fully operational, and the interchange will open to traffic with no restrictions. Following the opening of the SR 37/661 interchange, the temporary signals at Columbus Road/SR 16/Cherry Street interchange will be removed and the stop signs at the top of the ramps will be uncovered.  As before the project began, Columbus Rd./SR16/Cherry St. traffic will be opened to through traffic and have the right-of-way.  Weaver Dr. and ramp traffic will have to stop at the stop signs prior to traveling through the intersection.

Spring 2022:

  • Remaining roadway work on SR 37/661 to be completed. Some short term lane closures should be expected during this time.
  • River Road will close at SR 16 at the end of the project. River Rd will end in a cul-de-sac and will no longer be able to access SR 16.
