Ohio has 176 public use aviation facilities. Publicly owned airports are in 84 of Ohio's 88 counties, and Ohio has 8 commercial airports which generate $13.3 billion in total GDP.

ODOT's Aviation program and statewide planning process take air travel and transport into consideration as an important part of Ohio's vast transportation network, the fifth largest in the country. ODOT participates in funding, research and maintenance projects associated with airports and air travel.

In addition, ODOT's Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Center, a part of the DriveOhio initiative, is putting drones in the air to support and supplement Ohio's transportation network and economic development initiatives.
