The ODOT Office of Technical Services collects and shares data to help support the decision-making process for funding and maintenance across our system. The ODOT Facts Book is an annual publication that neatly, concisely and comprehensively publishes a summary of key data in one place for public consumption.
If you ever wanted to know how many bridges ODOT maintains or how many miles of interstate roadway criss-crosses Ohio, this is the publication to consult. For instance, we know that:
- Ohio is the fifth largest Interstate system, with more than 8,000 lane miles. Enough interstate to travel from Los Angeles to Washington D.C. about 3 times.
- Ohio is centrally locations within a days drive of more than 60% of the US and Canadian populations.
- Ohio has the nation’s second largest total number of bridges: 27,072.
- Ohio's highway safety statistics vary from county to county and we track and provide yearly averages for fatalities, serious injuries and total crashes across the state.
