Greene County (Friday, June 11, 2021) – The second part of a dual bridge repair project in Greene County is scheduled to begin, and lane restrictions will go into effect on U.S. Route 68 (S. Detroit Street) in Xenia early next week.
On Monday, June 14, contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation will begin work to rehabilitate the bridge on S. Detroit Street over Shawnee Run, immediately south of Leaman Street in Xenia.
Throughout construction, traffic on S. Detroit Street will be maintained in a minimum of one, 12-foot lane in either direction. However, Leaman Street will be closed for approximately two weeks, June 14 through 25, and traffic will be detoured via Whiteman, E. Second and S. Detroit streets or Third, S. Collier and Whiteman streets.
Sunesis Construction Company was awarded a contract for approximately $1.26 million to repair the structure, as well as the bridge on U.S. 68 over Massie Creek, just south of S.R. 235. Traffic on the Massie Creek structure is being maintained in one lane with temporary signals through late summer, and all work associated with both projects is scheduled to be completed by late fall.
