About the project

The total project includes rehabilitating the S.R. 48 bridge over the Little Miami River at South Lebanon, as well as the U.S. 22 Little Miami River bridge at Foster in Warren County.

More specifically, construction will include rehabilitating the S.R. 48 bridge by replacing the expansion joints, overlaying the bridge, replacing the barriers, patching the substructure, painting, replacing abutment bearings, and upgrading the guardrail. On U.S. 22, construction consists of replacing the expansion joints, overlaying the bridge, patching the substructure, and upgrading the guardrail.  The project will require a full closure of both structures; however, the routes will not be closed concurrently.

Construction on the S.R. 48 bridge was completed during the 2020 construction season, and work on U.S. 22 will take place during the summer of 2021.

  • Construction is scheduled to begin June 7, and the bridge will be closed at Old 3C Highway for approximately 50 days.
  • The detour will be via Columbia Road, Western Row Road, I-71 and S.R. 48, and U.S. 22 motorists are advised to follow the signed detour.
  • Old 3C Highway will remain open to traffic between the junctions with U.S. 22 east of the river and west of the river. Left and right-turn movements will be permitted from Old 3C to Socialville-Fosters and Fosters-Maineville roads.
  • Due to anticipated increase in traffic on Old 3C Highway, eastbound Socialville-Fosters Road & westbound Fosters-Maineville Road will be closed at their approach to Old 3C, and turning movements from both of these routes to Old 3C will be prohibited.
  • The Little Miami Scenic Trail will be closed where it crosses Old 3C Highway to assure the safety of pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists.  The trail will be open to the north and to the south of Old 3C.

The entire project is scheduled for completion in late August 2021, and all work will be contingent upon the weather.
