Project information

Project location:  U.S. 68 in the village of Arlington

Construction project cost: 

Phase 2: $1.34 million

Phase 3: $857,298

Contractor:  Helms and Sons Excavating, Findlay (both phases)

 

Reason for the project 

  • The pavement of U.S. 68 was built in the 1910s and 1920s. The original brick base remains beneath much of the pavement through the village.
  • The base beneath the pavement is poorly drained which leads to frequent pavement failures and repairs.

 

Project summary

Phase 1

  • Completed in 2018
  • Reconstructed U.S. 68 (Main Street) from Liberty Street to the bridge over Buck Run, including curb and gutter, drainage and storm sewer.
  • Cost: $915,868

Phase 2

  • Reconstruct the pavement on U.S. 68 (Main Street) from the south corporation limit to Liberty Street.
  • Reconstruct curb, gutter, drainage, and storm sewer.
  • Will close on June 1 May 18 for approximately four months. 

Phase 3

  • Reconstruct the pavement on U.S. 68 (Main Street) from Buck Run to just north of Wardwell Street.
  • Reconstruct curb, gutter, drainage, and storm sewer.
  • Will close on May 4 for approximately four months.

 

Project schedule

  • Work will begin in May 2020.
    • Phase 3 will close on May 4 for approximately four months.
    • Phase 2 will close on June 1  May 18 for approximately four months.

 

  • The highway reopened on Saturday, September 5, 2020.
  • Expected completion is late fall.

 

Maintenance of traffic

  • The route is open. Lane restrictions may occur for finish work.
