About the project

The project reconstructed five miles of the existing two lanes of I-75 and constructed an additional lane of travel in each direction from south of the U.S. 68/state Route 15 interchange on the south end to county Road 99 on the north end.

The project replaced all mainline bridges on I-75, replaced the Harrison Street overpass, redesigned and reconstructed the interchange between U.S. 68/State Route 15 and Interstate 75, and redesigned and reconstructed the interchange with U.S. 68/State Route 15 at Lima Avenue. The project also constructed noise walls at particular locations.

BEGIN: March 2017

COMPLETE: Fall 2020

COST: $114 million

CONTRACTOR: Beaver Excavating Inc.

Winter 2020-2021: Remaining work to complete the project in Hancock County:

  • The vast majority of work on the project is completed, but some work will continue through late fall with minimal impact to traffic expected.
  • Edge-line rumble strips are being completed, as are electrical connections for traffic cameras within the State Route 15/U.S. 68 interchange with I-75.
  • Grinding to smooth the pavement on three bridges is yet to begin. The bridges are located within or near the interchange area of State Route 15/U.S. 68 with I-75. Once under way, the grinding will be completed in only a few days with minimal traffic impacts.

  • Sealing of concrete on structures, corrective concrete work on sidewalks, grass seeding of areas, final pavement repairs and touchup of pavement will be completed.

Motorists should slow down, use extra caution and drive distraction-free through all work zones.
